5 Books to enjoy this summer

The summer just started and many of us have a lot of free time on their hands.

And what better way to enjoy the hot summer weather than by educating yourself reading a great book while sunbathing.

So today I am going to share 5 recommendations of my favorite books I read in the last couple of weeks

Call me by your name – André Aciman

A summer romance somewhere in Italy in the mid-eighties. Two people from different places spending a summer together in the dreamlike Italian riviera which will change their lives forever. There’s something about this novel that draws everyone’s heart into it. Not only is the story incredibly catching but also the aesthetic of the whole summer setting is very special and inspiring.

Even months after reading the book it still stays in the readers’ minds.

And after reading it you can watch the film which really is as good as the book.

Find me – André Aciman

Years after that one summer in Italy we meet the characters of “Call me by your name” once more. We watch Elios’ father Samuel build an unimaginably strong bond with this younger woman, we join the now successful pianist Elio as he starts a new affair and finally we see married Oliver and Elio in the Italian riviera as if they’ve never been gone.

As well as “Call me by your name” this novel is incredibly moving and probably the greatest love story of all time.

The subtle art not giving a f*** – Mark Manson

Moving to a different, more educational book-category The subtle art of not giving a f*** is on my top list of non-fiction about mindset and self-awareness. And no, this book isn’t there to tell you that you shouldn’t give a f*** about anything at all but rather helping you set priorities and give a f*** about the important stuff. Mark Manson’s talking to the reader very directly and keeping it real.

Born a Crime – Trevor Noah

As soon as I opened it this book turned into one of my favorites. Comedian Trevor Noah tells us the story of his life, being born illegally due to his parents’ different races whilst apartheid was still in force in South Africa and facing many other struggles and occurrences.

10% happier – Dan Harris

Last but not least my top 1 book recommendation for everyone interested in meditation, wanting to start meditating or even for those thinking that meditation is bullsh*t. Dan Harris’s journey started as he, co-anchor of “Good morning America”, had a full-on panic attack on live TV. It brought him onto an odyssey through the world of spirituality and self-help making him 10% happier in the end. The great thing about this book is that Dan Harris keeps it very real and honest. Different from most authors in this theme he isn’t talking about meditation as an expert but as a normal and skeptical human being just trying stuff out.

If you decide to read one of my recommended books I would love to hear your thoughts about it.
