What “Healthy” people get wrong about healthy living

You have surely seen these Blog-Posts, Youtube Videos, or Pinterest Boards about “Healthy Lifestyle” and “Habits that make you a better person” haven’t you?

If you look at a couple of those posts you will probably notice that they look all pretty much the same.

The people tell you that waking up at 5:30 am, exercising every day, and drinking lemon water first thing in the morning is going to make you a better, more successful person.

But where is the point of you being sleep deprived because you have to wake up at 5:30 am no matter how late you got to bed?

And what happens if you break your leg and can’t exercise for a couple of months?

Are you less of a good person for this time?

My point is that this isn’t a one size fits all thing,

we all have completely different lives and there is no point in trying to live some celebrities’ lifestyle because they aren’t you.

Something that works for someone else could have the opposite effect on you and its the same the other way around.

You have to find out what suits you as an individual.

Although the bloggers indeed recommend habits that do work for certain people, you shouldn’t feel pressured, but rather inspired and open to trying. Not implementing certain habits is not going to make you less of a good person.

What you should do

Explore. Give certain habits a shot, do what suits your lifestyle, and listen to your body and mind.

Do what feels right.

But still, there are certain categories that I would recommend you to cover.

1. It is a fact that implementing at least some of these basic habits (the way they work for you) is somewhat going to influence your life positively. Having some kind of physical activity (going for a walk, running a mile once in a while, or any other thing that moves your body a little) can improve not only your physical but also your mental health.

2. Good quality sleep is essential, but many people (including me) have a hard time resting and getting enough sleep. Figuring out a way in which you can sleep better can improve your life a lot.

3. Taking care of your relationships, even if it is just by grabbing a coffee with your friend once in a while or giving more hugs, could help improve the relationships you have and freeing yourself from toxic ones.

4. Never stop learning. Try out new things and widen your horizon once in a while. Spend time learning new things.

5. For me, awareness is the most important. Just being aware of what brings joy, what makes you happy, knowing your priorities and values, and just observing your daily life, leads to knowing what works for you and what doesn’t. It is the best way to learn about yourself so you should give this a try.

So if you read texts or see videos about healthy living or the ideal lifestyle evaluate for yourself, don’t let anyone talk you into anything that has no value for you. Form your healthy lifestyle and keep a fresh and open mind.
